What is Acute myeloid Leukemia?
Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) is a type of cancer that impacts the blood and bone marrow. The bone marrow, which is responsible for producing blood cells, generates abnormal myeloid cells in AML. These myeloid cells, a type of immature white blood cells, are crucial in the formation of mature blood cells such as red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Unfortunately, in AML patients, these abnormal cells fail to mature effectively. As a result, they proliferate rapidly, hindering the production of healthy blood cells necessary for the body to function properly.
